Bernt Balchen (23a de oktobro 1899 – 17a de oktobro 1973) estis pionira polusa aviadisto, navigisto, aviadila mekanika inĝeniero kaj militestro. Norvege devena, li poste iĝis usona civitano, kaj eĉ ricevis la usonan Distingan Flugokrucon. Lia servo en la Usona Aerarmeo dum la Dua Mondmilito profitis sian konon pri polusaj regionoj el sia esplorado al Arkto por helpi la Aliancanojn ĉe Skandinavio kaj Norda Eŭropo. Post la milito, Balchen pluestis influa estro de la Usona Aerarmeo, same kiel bone konsiderata privata konsilisto en projektoj rilataj al Arkto kaj aviado.[1]
