La unua urbo, kie aperis soveta armeo dum la dua mondmilito, estis Majakovskoje (tiam ĝi nomatis Nemmersdorf). Ekzistas teorio, ke tie okazis la plej teruraj sovetaj krimoj.
Post tio, ke nazioj reakiris la urbon, oni mesaĝis pri multo da murditaj civilanoj.
Goebbels aktive uzis ĉi tiun informon por aperigu ĉe germanaj civilanoj malamon al sovetoj. Propagando verkis kelkajn filmojn, kaj multaj civilanoj lasis siajn domojn kiam venis sovetoj.
