This is one of the water-colour drawings made by Georg Forster during James Cook's second voyage to the Pacific in 1772-1775.

The watercolour is listed by Sharpe 1906, p. 184 and by Lysaght 1959 p. 289 as Plate 71. This is the number written on the right-hand side of the watercolour. The NHM lists this watercolour as Plate 69.

John Latham based his description of the "Georgia duck" on this picture by Forster.(Latham, 1785, p. 478).

The watercolour was painted in 1775 at South Georgia and is the holotype for the species.(Lysaght 1959, p. 289)
