Michael Curtiz

Michael CURTIZ (KERTÉSZ Mihály [kerte:s miha:j]) (naskiĝis la 24-an de decembro 1886 en Budapeŝto, mortis la 10-an de aprilo 1962 en Holivudo) estis hungardevena, usona filmreĝisoro, Oskar-premiito en 1944 pro la filmo Casablanca.

Li naskiĝis en juda familio, en Budapeŝto, lia originala nomo estis Kertész Kaminer Manó. Li eskapis en aĝo de 17 el sia hejmo per cirko, poste lernis aktoradon kaj diplomiĝis en 1906 en la Aktorakademio.

Li komence laboris en Pécs, poste en Szeged. Li pretigis la unuan filmon en 1912, en la sekvaj jaroj studvojaĝis al Danio, en studio de tiam floranta Nordisk. Tie li laboris kiel asistento kaj reĝisoro kaj eĉ ĉefrolis en la filmo Atlantis. Li hejmenveturis en 1914 al Hungario kaj eklaboris en la filmfabriko de Jenő Janovics.

Li soldatservis en la unua mondmilito, dum la Hungara Sovetrespubliko translokiĝis al Aŭstrio. Li reĝisoris filmojn en Aŭstrio kaj Germanio, el kiuj la plej grava estas Sodoma kaj Gomorra (1922).

Li elmigirs en 1926 al Usono, kie ŝanĝis sian nomon al Michael Curtiz. Dum la longa holivuda kariero, li faris pli ol 100 filmojn.
