The Blackguard estis produktorita en la Babelsberg Studioj en Potsdam, kie Alfred Hitchcock, estante scenaristo, rigardis parton de la farado de la filmo de F. W. Murnau nome Der letzte Mann (1924).[2] Li estis impresita per la laboro de Murnau kaj poste uzis multajn el liaj teknikoj por la scendesegnado en siaj propraj produktaĵoj.[3]
