A longitudinal profile of the Gotthardbahn including its branchlines providing station elevations and maximum slopes between stations was provided in the same article.

The map shows the Gotthard line in its full extent with the main line coming down from Luzern passing through the Gotthard tunnel and going via Locarno to the Italien boarder in Chiasso. The branch line starting at Zug joines the main line in Arth-Goldau. The two southern branchlines start of at Bellinzona and extend southwest halfway to the southern likeside of Lago Maggiore before the line bifurcates with one line going norhwest to Locarno and the other line continuing its way to the Italien border on the southern lakeside.

The Map illustrates the extended train network of the north being connected to an equally extended network in the south over the traffic hostile and network free barrier of the alps being only crossed by the Gotthard line.

The map demonstrates in some detail the heart of the Gotthardbahn installation: Going south on the northern ramp and having passed Erstfeld you turn right into a right turn spiral tunnel followed by a double loop to gain the necessary elevation to enter the 15km long Gotthard tunnel crossing the mountain pass underground. Going down on the southern ramp you encounter to two sets of double spiral tunnels. You enter the first left turn spiral tunnei into the left mountain side, leave over a bridge to the other side of the valley, where you enter the right mountainside going into a right turn spiral tunnel. Crossing the valley again further down you enter into a set of two left turn spiral tunnels into the left side of tthe mountain loosing the elevation again you gained on the northern side.

The author Dietler did not provide a copyright for the graphs used nor did he use specific citations within his article and listed sources as "literature" solely at the end of his chapter. It is not clear if he is the original author of any of the illustrations or whether he copied them from one of the books or periodicals listed or from elsewhere. Disregarding the listed business reports of the Gotthardbahn and its liquidation commission the most recent dated literature listed originates from 1895. Obviously all listed sources predate the publication of volume 5 of Röll's encyclopedia in 1914. Dietler lists the sources as follows below. Originals of the graph might be found there. With standard operation of the Gotthardbahn having started on 1 June 1882 the line was well established during the publication of of volume 5 of Röll's encyclopedia in 1915. The engineering drawings probably dates from somewhere between the final planning period and the time just before the last construction phase.
