Uzanto-Diskuto:Terminator IV
First off, I'm not a linguist, nor do I know anything about Scots or the Scottish Gaelic languages, other than what I read in Wikipedia. ;-) In English, there seems to be a distinction between the Scots language and Scottish Gaelic language. Is that proper? In Esperanto, that distinction is made with skota lingvo (Scots) and skotgaela lingvo (Scottish Gaelic). The English spoken in Scotland would be "skotangla dialekto de la angla lingvo" (Scottish-English dialect of English). We do not yet have an article about that, however.
Typically, the names of languages in Esperanto follow in the form "Xxxxa lingvo", like Angla lingvo (English), Franca lingvo (French), and so on. I know in the past some folks have wanted to move this article to "Scots", which would be against Esperanto convention for language names. What part of our naming convention do you find offensive?
I found a reference in Esperanto to the distinctions between the three languages of Scotland: the Scottish dialect of English, Scots, and Gaelic in a web page from the Esperanto Association of Scotland, so I assume they know what they are talking about.
