Recent software changes
- The latest version of MediaWiki (1.23wmf9) was added to test wikis and MediaWiki.org on January 2. It will be enabled on non-Wikipedia wikis on January 7 and on all Wikipedia wikis on January 9 (calendar).
- The old note-taking site (Etherpad) was removed on December 30, 2013. You can see most of the documents on the new site. [1]
Problems
- On January 2, Wikimedia Commons, Wikidata and all Wikivoyage projects were broken for 2 hours due to language cache update issues.
- On the same day, it was not possible to edit most wikis for about 30 minutes, due to a database replication problem.
Future software changes
- The new search tool (CirrusSearch) will be added as the default search method for Italian Wikipedia, French Wikisource, Wikidata and all Wikivoyage sites, and as a second search method for the German Wikipedia and all Wikibooks sites on January 6. [2]
- Spanish, French, Portuguese and Russian Wikipedia users will also be able to enable CirrusSearch in their Beta Features options. [3]
- Plural form rules for some languages will be changed. Many translations of the user interface for Belarusian, Russian, Serbian, Ukrainian and other languages will need to be changed. [4] [5] [6]

- @Pino. La afero pri la koordinatoj estas sufiĉe malfacila, ĉar {{geokesto}}, kiu ja estas la praulo de {{geokesto2}} ja enhavas diversajn grupojn de parametroj por koordinatoj. Pro kongrueco ili nun eĉ restis en {{geokesto2}}. Sed intertempe ja aperis Lua. Kaj en somero 2013 mi eĉ kreis du Lua-modulojn por tio. Tial mi emus iel rearanĝi la koordinatojn eĉ per Lua. Mi vidas, ke en sia kampanjo kontraŭ Portalo:Pedofilio, la uzanto-administranto DidiWeidmann nun estas sendanta novan serion da mesaĝoj al uzantoj, ĉi-foje al tiuj, kiuj voĉdonis kontraŭ la forigon de la portalo. En tiuj mesaĝoj li demandas se vi ĉiuj estas pretaj regule kunlabori kaj kunredakti en la portalo ("ne nur unu foje per redakteto en duona jaro, sed almenaŭ unufoje semajne" unufoje semajne! -!!!-), kiel speco de ĉantaĝo aŭ kondiĉo altrudita de li mem por ne forigi la portalon, kiu ĉiuokaze li klopodus manipuli kaj cenzuri laŭ sia fajfilo. Nu, antaŭ tio mi devas averti, ke: UNUE: Ekde la komenco, la portalo estas farita tiamaniere, ke ĝi tute ne bezonas ian flegadon. Li evidente havas multegan liberan tempon por skribi longegajn diskutojn kaj sendadi amasmesaĝojn. Se li utiligus tiun tempon por montri al konkretaj problemoj, jam tute ne devus esti iu ajn parto de la portalo problema. Tiu persono scias neniom pri pedofilio kaj pretendas redukti ĝin al infana seksa misuzo kaj tio estas sensenca; pedofilio estas temo tre ampleksa, oni ne povas limigi ĝin al tio, kaj tion li ne komprenas nek ŝajnas kapabli kompreni. - You can now see relatively recent results on special pages like Special:DoubleRedirects, Special:UncategorizedPages or Special:WantedCategories. They were disabled before because they were very slow. The results are now updated once a month. [29]
- As of January 16, you can make and use guided tours on the Asturian, Farsi and Russian Wikipedias. If you want this tool on your wiki, you need to translate it and ask in Bugzilla. [30] [31]
- You can give comments on an idea to have a fixed toolbar at the top of wiki pages. [32]

VisualEditor news
- In the toolbar, the menu to edit the styles (like bold, italic, etc.) now has a down arrow (). The order of the Insert menu has also changed a little.

- If you have removed JavaScript in your web browser, you will soon be able to see the orange bar saying that you have new messages. If you have changed how the bar looks with a gadget, you may need to change the gadget again. [44] [45]

Kiel vi mem kaj aliaj diris, la temo estas enciklopedieca kaj portalo pri la temo estas akceptebla, samkiel ekzistas portaloj pri plej diversaj temoj; do ne estis motivoj por proponi balotadon. Ni ne trompiĝu: multaj volas forigi la portalon pro nuraj personaj antipatioj al la temo mem, kaj antipatio al iu temo ne estas valida kialo por forigi enhavojn. Recent software changes
- Pages from Wikimedia sites now load faster in your browser thanks to "module storage", a way for your browser to save data like JavaScript and CSS on your computer to avoid downloading them again. See video. [50]

- The Vector search box was changed to fix old display and accessibility issues; for example, you can now use full-text search even if you have disabled JavaScript. Recent software changes
- The latest version of MediaWiki (1.23wmf14) was added to test wikis and MediaWiki.org on February 13. It will be added to non-Wikipedia wikis on February 18, and all Wikipedia wikis on February 20 (calendar).

- The new search tool (CirrusSearch) now gives more importance to content namespaces if you search in several namespaces. [104]
- You can now directly link to files viewed with MultimediaViewer, the new tool for viewing media files. [105]

Problems
- On February 9, Wikimedia Labs was broken for about 2 hours due to an XFS file system problem. [107]
- On February 11, there were problems with VisualEditor for about 20 minutes due to a server logging issue. [108]
- On the same day, for about 20 minutes there were issues with page loading due to database problems.
- There were issues with page loading between 21:00 UTC on February 13 and 11:00 UTC on February 14 for users in Europe. It was due to a cache server problem.
- On February 14, all sites were broken for about 15 minutes for users in Southeast Asia, Oceania and the western part of North America. It was due to problems with cache servers.
VisualEditor news
- The link tool now tells you when you're linking to a disambiguation or redirect page. [109]
- You can now change image display (like thumbnail, frame and frameless) with VisualEditor. [110]
- Wikitext warnings will now hide when you remove wikitext from paragraphs you are editing. [111]
- You will soon be able to create and edit redirect pages with VisualEditor. [112] [113] [114]

Recent software changes

- When users enable web fonts by default, Universal Language Selector will now log if they don't have fonts to display pages correctly. This information will be used by developers to improve font support in the future. Read more about missing fonts. [130]

VisualEditor news

- Template parameters now have a bigger, auto-sizing input box for easier editing. [139]

Saluton, nun februaro jam pasis kaj la projekto pri plia ordigo de la miloj da artikoletoj pri la komunumoj de Meksiko ankoraŭ ne robote pluprogresis. Daŭre vi pravas, ke robota helpo tre bonas en trakto de tiom granda sumo de artikoloj, sed aliflanke la robota helpo kompreneble ĉiam nur kovras unu tasketon, do restas pesi kiam estas tute ŝablonaj taskoj taŭgaj por roboto, kaj kiam - kvankam tede - homa redaktanto povas samtempe fari plurajn individuajn redaktojn. Por tamen progresi al pli interesaj taskoj, mi petus vin sendi vian roboton fari tri absolute ŝablonajn anstataŭigojn - se vi volas en tuta vikipedio, ne nur en la artikoloj pri komunumoj de Meksiko. Unua estas simpla tajperaro en miloj da primeksikaj paĝoj, nome ŝanĝi la signaron "La geografia koordinatoj de la komunumo" al "La geografiaj koordinatoj de la komunumo" - en tio centprocente ne eblas damaĝi ion ajn :-). Dua peto estus ŝablone, mi rekomendus tutvikipedie ŝanĝi la signaron " enloĝanto" al " loĝanto", tiel ke ŝanĝiĝas ĉiuj vortformoj (do -o, -oj, -on kaj -ojn). Se iel problemas fari tion unupaŝe, alternativo estus fari ĉiujn kvar anstataŭigojn unuope. Variaĵoj kun komenca majusklo laŭ mi apenaŭ ekzistas en signifa kvanto. Legindeco de la artikolo nudelo
Post postulo de diversaj kontribuantoj en la disktuejo mi forigis la artikolon nudelo el la listo de la legindaj artikoloj. La kialo estas evidenta, ĝi ne plenumigas la kriteriojn objektivajn por la atributo "leginda": Unue la artikolo estas tre mallonga (nome malpli ol 4000 bitokoj). Artikolo kun malpli ol 8000 bitokoj nun en tre esceptaj kazoj entute devus ricevi la atributon leginda kaj malgraŭ ĝia mallongeco granda parto de la artikolo eĉ nur estas listo kun alidirektoj al aliaj artikoloj. Do la efektive artiklolo longas eĉ malpli ol 2000 bitokoj. Certer la longeco estas ne la unika kriterio kaj en tre escepetaj kazoj ankaŭ mallonga artikolo povas meriti tian atributon. Sed direndas, ke la artikoleto vere nur tre supraĵe traktas esencajn trajtojn de la temo. Alia kriterio estas referencoj. La artikolo havas eĉ ne unu solan entekstan referencon. Tial ankaŭ tiun kriterion ĝi tute ne plenumigas. Trie ek de la decido mallegindigi ĝin ne okazis esencaj modifoj. Pro tiuj evidentaj kialoj via nuligo de mia redakto estas malkorekta kaj ne estas akceptebla nuntempe la remeto de nudelo al la listo de legindaj artikoloj, sen ke la necesaj plibonigoj okazos. Se la legindeco de nudelo al vi ion signifas, mi elkore invitas vin transformi ĝin al vere leginda artikolo. Se ĝi atingis longecon akcpeteblan (de almenau 10000 bitokoj), estos verikta en bona stilo kaj enhavos la bezonatajn referencojn (oni povas ankaŭ kopii ilin el la alilingvaj versioj), tiam mi estos la unua, kiu volonte subtenos la remeton de la artikolo al la listo legindaj artikoloj. Niaj legindaj artikoloj tamen devas plenigi minimumajn kvalitajn kriteriojn, se ni ne volas, ke Esperanto-vikipedio ricevos la reputacion de diletanta vikipedio! - Trie, mi tute konsentas pri ekslegindigo de "Nudelo" - ĝi tute ne plenumas la kriteriojn, almenaŭ pri kontrolebleco de asertoj (ja mi mem markis ĝin pri senfonteco). Ĉu vi tamen konsideras taŭge en tiu ĉi momento ekslegindigi ĉiujn 78 senfontajn legindajn kaj 54 senfontajn elstarajn artikolojn? Aŭ ĉu vi preferas almenaŭ demandi la komunumon?

Por komparo rigardu la koncernajn artikolojn en la germana kaj angla versio de vikipedio, kiuj ambaŭ estas multe pli riĉaj, tamen neniu havis la ideojn al tiuj artikoloj tie doni la statuson de "legindeco". Doni statuson de legindeco al artikoloj, kiuj laŭ ilia kvalito kaj grandeco absolute ne meritas tion, damaĝas la reputacion de nia vikipedio. Se vi malfermas redaktomiliton en tia afero, tio estus vere stranga kaj ne komprenebla agado! Mi jam diris, al vi, se vi volas konservi la artikolon kiel leginda, tiam faru ion, ke ĝi fariĝu leginda. Do ekz., se ni kreis paĝon por trakti ekslegindigon, ne sufiĉas diri "mi efektivigis ekslegindigon". Mi persone preferus, ke ni povu en rapida procezo (nuntempe tio signifas "tuj, sen diskuto, kun mencio en iu centra loko") ekslegindigi kaj ekselstarigi ĉiujn statushavajn artikolojn sen referencoj (kaj pri aliaj, kiuj ne plenumas kriteriojn ni povas diskuti). Se vi volas forigi statuson de iu ajn artikolo alimaniere ol per kutima interkonsentita procezo vi tion prefere almenaŭ diru anticipe, ja sendiskuta rompado de kutimoj estas konsiderata kiel vandalaĵo en multaj okazoj... - Kara Kubo, via riproĉo, ke la proceduro ne estis observita estas malprava kaj via stranga lukto, kiun vi kaŭzas nun vere absurda! Kiel dirite jam en novembro 2012 al la artikolo estis mincaita la perdo de ĝia statuso de legindindeco - la ŝablono ja bone videblas. La aldono de tiu ŝablono estis fakte la malfermo de la diskuto. Ke neniu reagis, simple signifas, ke neniu volis diskuti - la ebleco ekzistis! Do fakte jam en decembro 2012 mi povintus mallegindigi la artikolon tute regularkonforme! - Por ion ankoraŭ klarigi: Ni ne havas ĝis nun eksplicitan proceduron pri mallengindigo. Sed oni por jure paroli povas uzi analogian proceduron al forigo. Ĉar forigo estas pli forta ago ol mallegindigo, certe la analoga apliko de la foriga regularo por mallegindigo estas jure pli ol korekta. La foriga regularo antaŭvidas maksimuman tempolimon de 1 semajno post postulo de forigo, se neniu protestas kaj postulas diskuton. Krome, kutima procezo por forigo konsistas ankaŭ de atentigo de ĉefaŭtoro(j). Se vi volas kompari procedurojn, prefere al ekslegindigo komparu ekselstarigon - kaj tiu ja postulas diskuton en koncerna paĝo. Do ekslegindigo tute ne estis konforma al laŭ tiu komparo.
- Mi jam x-foje ripetas, ke mi neniel pensas, ke la artikolo meritas legindan statuson (eble ĝerman...). Sed faradu ni aferojn sisteme - aŭ ni diskutu pri ĉiuj artikoloj aŭ ni difinu iun sojlon sub kiu ne necesas diskuti. Sed faru ni tion sisteme, ne arbitre! - Kara Kubo, via riproĉo, ke la proceduro ne estis observita estas malprava kaj via stranga lukto, kiun vi kaŭzas nun vere absurda! Kiel dirite jam en novembro 2012 al la artikolo estis mincaita la perdo de ĝia statuso de legindindeco - la ŝablono ja bone videblas. La aldono de tiu ŝablono estis fakte la malfermo de la diskuto. - Kara Didi, mi verdire ne protektas la artikolon (mi tute konsentas, ke ĝi neniel estas leginda), mi protektas almenaŭ bazan vicordon de aferoj. Do ekz., se ni kreis paĝon por trakti ekslegindigon, ne sufiĉas diri "mi efektivigis ekslegindigon". Mi persone preferus, ke ni povu en rapida procezo (nuntempe tio signifas "tuj, sen diskuto, kun mencio en iu centra loko") ekslegindigi kaj ekselstarigi ĉiujn statushavajn artikolojn sen referencoj (kaj pri aliaj, kiuj ne plenumas kriteriojn ni povas diskuti). Mi provas rediri per simplaj vorto: Kubo, vi ĵus kreis grandan problemon, kie neniu problemo ekzistis kaj nun vi volas proponi por krei superfluan proceduron por solvi la tute ne ekzistantan problemon. La klarajn ni laŭ la nuna regularo povas mallegindigi post anonco post paso de unu tago aŭ maksimume unu semajno sen disktuo, krom se iu en specifa kazo postulas diskuton. Postuli diskuton tamen povas nur persono, kiu malkonsentas kun la mallegindigo aŭ malelstarigo. Kiel dirite, ĉar ne ekzistas la problemo mi ankaŭ ne vidas eblecon diskuti pri ĝi. La problemo estas, ke ni devas malelstarigi kaj mallegindigi ankoraŭ grandan kvanton da artikoloj - bedaŭrinde, sed se neniu ilin plibonigas, ne estas alia ebleco.
